Welcome to part 3 of our journey. I hope you have the book and have completed last week’s homework. If not,”What are you waiting for?” Get Holley’s book “You’re Already Amazing: Embracing Who You Are, Becoming All God Created You to Be” (Click the title for your copy). If you’ve missed the beginning of our journey, make sure to read “You’re Already Amazing: It’s Time to Believe It“and “You’re Already Amazing: The Showdown“ size=”30″]
Okay, this chapter is for those of us still struggling to find our “amazing.” Holley has titled this chapter as such: “Why Is It So Hard to Believe I’m Amazing?” I am writing about this topic because we live in a world where we are constantly being defined. One minute we’re hot and the next minute we’re not. And sadly, a lot of the noise comes from our own kind, other women. We war with one another about career goals, the correct way to raise children, make-up or no make-up, and hair (natural, relaxed, weaves, extensions). You name it and we argue about it. As much as we’d like to think we don’t let these negative seeds take root, if we are all being honest, sometimes they do. It’s time to uproot these bad trees and get rid of them. They have no place in our lives. Let them go!!!
According to Holley, the first thing we must realize that believing we are amazing is a continuous process. This is not some overnight, easy-fix task. Life takes us through hills and valleys and some days we’re up and sometimes we’re down. We will always need to remind ourselves of this truth even when we don’t feel it and even when our lives don’t look the part.
Secondly and most importantly, the only way to truly hold on and live in this truth is through HIM. HE is the ONE who established this truth for us in the first place. HE knows what we’re up against and HE gave us HIS WORD as an anchor to ground us as we travel on the road of life.
So, what are HIS truths?
- We are fearfully and wonderfully made. “I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are thy works…” (Psalm 139:14)
- We are loved. “…I have loved you with an everlasting love…”(Jeremiah 31:3)
- We can do ALL things through HIM. “I can do all things through Christ, which strengthens me.” (Phillipians 4:13)
In other words, we must learn to dance to the beat of our Father’s drum and not the tunes ( I purposely made tune plural) of the world. See, what HE says about us never changes. Society is fickle and constantly changing. I remember being a high school student and people constantly telling me I should cut my eyebrows because they were so thick. Thin eye brows were the “in” thing. My momma, however, wasn’t having it. She let me get a little cut off for my prom, but that’s it. Fast forward to now and people stop me on the street to tell me how beautiful my eyebrows are. Full brows are now the “in” thing.
The great thing about God is that HIS word never goes out of style. That means we were amazing yesterday, we are still amazing today, and when we wake-up tomorrow, we will still be amazing. How awesome is that?
Ladies,we must grab hold of this truth and fight to hold onto to it no matter what life hands us. The enemy wants to steal God’s word from us. Imagine how different our lives could be if we firmly stood on these beliefs about ourselves. We could do some true damage for God. We would know who we are, be confident in our purpose, and serve others like never before. How many of you know that this world NEEDS what God has given us? This world NEEDS our light and how will they see it if we are always insecure about who we are?
Now Holley takes this a step further and helps us identify the lies that cause us to struggle with how God sees us. I’m not going to go there here. Get the book, so you can complete this thing with her. She’s on point and identifies with us and our struggle because she is walking this road too.
This week’s homework
- If you don’t have Holley’s book, get it here.
- Read and complete the task for this chapter.
- Confess the WORD. Every morning and every night this week stand in the mirror and speak God’s truths (the ones listed above) over yourself.
Peace and Blessings,
