My new series is from Holley Gerth’s book “You’re Already Amazing: Embracing Who You Are, Becoming All God Created You to Be(Click the title for your copy).
I will be devoting 4 posts to Holley’s book, so make sure to check in every week. She has some really good nuggets of wisdom, and I want to talk about what I’m learning that could maybe help you too. You can learn more about Holley at www.holleygerth.com. She has some wonderful stuff on her site. Check it out.
Before I get started, I just want you to know that this book is awesome. Holley dives into the secret places of our heart that only God knows. You know what I’m talking about ladies. Those areas that you’ve never even exposed to your significant other or your bestie. The parts of you that you meditate on, but wouldn’t dare speak for fear that your secret would be revealed.
I bought this book while in Barnes and Nobles with my husband a while back, but never had the chance to read it. I remember scouring the bargain book sections (a little low on funds that day) when the title caught my eye.
“You’re Already Amazing”
Am I, really?
Can I tell you a secret?
I never really thought of myself as amazing, even as a mom of 3 little boys. Even as a teacher. Even getting my Master’s while teaching and being a mom. I mean, I know God has brought me through many storms. I also know that my hubs really really loves me as well as my kids, but amazing? Nah, not me. I’ve come across quite a few women whom I deem amazing, but I guess I just never really put myself in the same boat with those women. Honestly, I’m not even sure why. I guess because my definition of amazing is extraordinary and I’ve really looked at myself as being extraordinary. I mean, I consider my momma to be a phenomenal and extraordinary mom (single parent), educator and woman. Women who have mastered the work life balance (work always gets put on hold for family) are amazing to me. Women business owners. Shoot, women who have worked while building a business on the side. That’s what I always considered amazing.
I struggle to stay up late working on my blog because I know I will pay for it the next day. I’m a teacher and being tired doesn’t work in the classroom. So kudos to the women that can do it. For me, it is a struggle.
So amazing, nope. I guess I’ve always seen myself as a plain Jane and average. One of the things that attracted me to my husband was that he didn’t make me feel like a weirdo and he still doesn’t, even though I’m the first to admit that I’m a little different. I mean, ok. It is what it is, right?
Holley’s book is challenging the way I see myself. And it’s frightening. And enlightening. It makes me feel exposed, but in a good way kinda sorta. I mean, she’s really shedding light on some areas that I’ve kept hidden. She’s also helping me identify those areas that are preventing me from stepping out more with Evertrusting. I did my first Live Instagram video. 1 person attended. I was shaking for a good 5 minutes after it ended because I don’t do stuff like that. At least until now. Hey, I even took the video of my singing down by 5 pm the day it was posted about a month ago because I just couldn’t bare the thought of it being on the internet. Nope. Insecurity at its finest.
Back to this thing with the title. The word “Already” is in red. Perfect color for making something stand out.
But it is also a message to those of us who strive to be amazing by thinking if we do “a little more of this and little less of that” we will get there. WE CAN STOP NOW! Holley says we’re there. We’ve reached our destination. We can stop our never ending quest for awesomeness. That’s something to be excited about. The title belongs to each of us. We already own it. It’s not in escrow.
I’m intentionally making this post short for a few reasons. First I want to give you a chance to get the book before I go any further (get it here). I also want all of us to meditate on Holley’s affirmation “We’re ALREADY Amazing!” Especially those of use struggling to accept this truth.
So, starting next week, we need to stand in the mirror every morning after we get up and every night before bed and say “I’m ALREADY Amazing!”
It’s time for us to own it.
Let’s do this ladies!!!
